"Getting Closer...."

Dear Reader,

I wrote a while ago about "A Flipping Funtastic Opportunity". Go ahead and check that out for a second so you can understand the rest of this post.......

You're back here? Okay, cool.

So here's the official break-down of what the program is all about.

The Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, offers American high school students and recent graduates in the U.S. full scholarships for up to one academic year in countries with significant Muslim populations.

For the 2013-2014 academic year, YES Abroad students may live in the following countries:

Bosnia & Herzegovina | Egypt | Ghana | India | Indonesia | Malaysia | Mali | Morocco | Oman | South Africa | Thailand | Tunisia | Turkey

The YES Abroad program was initiated as a reciprocal extension of the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study program for international students from countries with significant Muslim populations. The first group of Americans participated in YES Abroad in the 2009-2010 academic year, living and studying in ten select YES countries. The program now offers 65 full scholarships to American students nationwide.

YES Abroad students serve as “youth ambassadors” of the United States, promoting mutual understanding by forming lasting relationships with their host families and communities. Participants live with a host family, attend a local high school, acquire leadership skills, and engage in activities to learn about the host country’s society and values while helping to educate others about American society and values.

I submitted my application for this program shortly after finishing my blog post in November. I've been anxiously awaiting the email that will tell me if I'm a semi-finalist or not since then....

And the email is coming next week.

On the list of stuff that Nick Merrill is extremely excited for, getting this email is above everything else. If I don't get selected as a semi-finalist, then LIFE GOES ON!. But if I do...then I'll definitely be celebrating!!! :D.

Until then, I'm anxiously waiting. And I'll give you an update as soon as I hear, my dear Reader.

Swagg on. NM
